Very nice, a classic facelift-fifth or sixth generation Ford Escort.
The last Ford Escorts before becoming Ford Focus’.

Mid to late 90s is considered classic already?
Having said that, all the Escorts seem to have disappeared here. Still lots of VWs, Peugeots and the like of similar vintage. But Fords? All gone.

Those wheels work very well with that car

Oh yeah my murican Ford is so much more reliable and long lasting than those Eurotrash Poojoes and Volkwagens

To me they are a modern classic car as opposed to a vintage classic car. One day these will be like the old Ford Cortinas and Granadas.
I still see some around the place, even the occasional Ford Orion.

It’s an interesting phonemenon. I don’t know the cause of this, as I never really considered the Escort a bad or unattractive car. It wouldn’t have been my first pick, but certainly not even close to my last pick either.
I made a comparison on just one website. I looked country wide and limited it to 1993-1998. I’ll take the Escort as a baseline .
New sales 1993-1998 (country wide, the Netherlands). Using the linked date below I made a guestimate that’s not 100% accurate but close enough.
Escort:
1
Peugeot 306:
0.75
VW Golf:
1.67
Opel Astra:
2.13
Cars for sale today 1993-1998 (country wide, one website):
Escort:
1
Peugeot 306:
2.9
VW Golf:
10.8
Opel Astra:
6.4
Relative survivability:
Escort: 1
Peugeot 306: 2.9/0.75 = 3.9
VW Golf: 10.8/1.67 = 6.5
Opel Astra: 6.4/2.13= 3.0
The survivability of the Escort is relatively low in comparison. The 3.9 figure of the Peugeot 306 means it’s 3.9 times more likely to have survived than an Escort from the same era. I’m guessing the Golf would remain class leader, even if other competitors are taken into the equation.

I guess they’re gone because they were incredibly rust prone.

I have a feeling that the Escort sold more up here in Scandinavia though, I usually se one from that generation once a day here in my small town (no it’s not the same one every time :P).

Old danish plates, most new have the EU star and DK country code. I refuse to support that puppet show tho... Which means i drive illegal every time i leave the country due to the absense of seperate DK country sticker...

Technically, it’s 25 years to classic, and 35 to veteran status in denmark. This is the mk5 facelift, but with the pre-facelift grille/boot and various Xr3i/rs2k bits and bobs. All the escorts HAVE dissapeared indeed, this model is getting exceedingly “rare” due to rust mostly...

I was so lost in them when i saw them for sale, and they were dirt cheap too due to scruffs and brake dust (100$-ish). Needed 2 new tyres only.

Would we really consider a 1990s Escort a classic at some point? I’m not so sure about that.
Think about this. A Car from the 1990s is not massively different from a car you can buy today actually. Would we really consider one a classic at some point? I am obviously not talking about some special models like the RS Cosworth, rather than a bog standard 1.6l Escort 5-door.
Let me put it another way. This is a 1955-ish Ford Taunus 15M, a very ordinary car with a 55hp 1.5L engine and not much else. A typical post-war family car then.
This is a 1985-ish Ford Sierra. In Beige. A typical 1980s family car.
And finally we see a brand new 2015 Mondeo.
As you can see the difference between the Taunus and the Sierra is much bigger than the difference between the Sierra and the Mondeo. The Taunus would probably have been considered a classic car in 1985. But do we in 2015 consider this beige four-door Sierra a classic car in the same way as the Taunus had been in 1985? I think not. I think it’ll take a lot more time until we finally consider a beige Sierra a classic like the Taunus. The Sierra is just modern enough that we still consider them everyday cars even though they don’t pop up in traffic very often anymore. The Taunus on the other hand is something special, and has been in the 1980s already, it’s just so different from modern cars, very clearly a product of a long gone decade.
In other words: A 30 year old Taunus 15M looks and feels much older than a 30 year old Sierra (in beige).

I had considered the cosworth fenders too, but too much work/cost in the end. And despite, why pretend to be something you aren’t?

Thankfully. We don’t have to have the E.U. flag on ours if we don’t wish but we do need to put a ‘GB’ sticker on when traveling outside the U.K. if it’s not marked in some way on the licence plate.
Mine is wearing an adhesive gel badge.

The DK stickers are all ugly, atrocious, or im just too cheap to buy them. If im going vacationing anywhere i will need to get one tho... Surely they can be had in magnetic form!

They can be had in magnetic form and some look really good.
